The Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade is in the works. Developed of course by CD Projekt Red. Looks like devs of the iconic series are following the latest trend in gaming. Which is porting your title to the newest generation consoles, either by releasing director’s cut like Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding. Or you can go the route of Grand Theft Auto V, and just port it over with minor enhancements or additions.
Not that there is anything wrong with either. More ways to consume and enjoy games are always welcome. Some gems do not get that kind of treatment. And in such cases, you either must resort to emulation, or pay ludicrous amounts of money to private sellers through amazon or eBay.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going with the GTA V style of enhancement. So no new content outside of a couple of goodies. Speaking of which. “The Witcher 3 next-gen update is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC this year![…][W]e also prepared some free DLCs inspired by @witchernetflix“, announced the devs via this tweet.
Changes on the gameplay front of The Witcher 3 next-gen version
Well, there is not much to talk about on this front. CDPR officially confirmed that new items are coming to Witcher 3, inspired by the Netflix show. If I was a betting man, I would put my money on cosmetics. New hairstyles maybe. Probably some new weapons? Maybe some armour.
What is more interesting and noteworthy are the features not mentioned in the tweet. Next-gen Witcher 3 will feature faster load times. PlayStation 4 players stated that sometimes load times after death took almost 90 seconds. While the 90 seconds load time is definitely one of the longer ones. It still needs to be stated that current-gen consoles struggle while loading in the world of The Witcher 3. CDPR has a long history of… not being that great with console ports.
A very general promise of improved visuals found its way into the announcement. But no details on that front. This could range from better textures to improved weather effects. Probably nothing new when it comes to animations and such. But what will be there for sure is ray tracing. Which means even better reflections, lighting, and other such graphical improvements.
“The next-generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4,” claims a post on the developers’ official website.
