The new Battle Royale game Apex Legends might be set in the Titanfall universe, but it doesn’t feature any titans or have any direct connections to the famous franchise. It has been a rollercoaster these last couple of days as we received different information regarding the plans of Respawn, the studio that developed previous Titanfall games.
According to the recent announcement of Vince Zampella, the CEO of the team, we can expect “more Titanfall” during 2019. That is a bit of a vague promise, so it doesn’t come as strange that the community wanted a detailed explanation.
It was offered by Andrew Wilson, the head of Electronic Arts, a company who owns Respawn. He revealed in the quarterly earnings call that there are big plans ahead for both Apex Legends and the entire Titanfall franchise.
“We are looking to keep the fans interested in Apex Legends for a long time. While the focus will be on live service, the Respawn studio will also work on a premium game,” said Wilson and emphasized that the title will be launched during this year (calendar or fiscal, that part remains a bit unclear).
However, if you pay attention to Wilson’s words, you will discover that he announced another game set in the universe of Titanfall. According to him, it will present a “fresh twist,” but does that mean we can expect a direct sequel? The sad truth is probably not, but the company will certainly reveal more information in the coming months.
The Full Package
If there is any good news, it is that it won’t be a free-to-play multiplayer BR. After all, we already have one of those. It will be a full-featured premium game that requires plenty of developmental effort. And no, you probably shouldn’t expect VR support – that is not Respawn’s cup of tea.
In the meantime, Apex Legends had huge success over the first couple of days. However, many of the fans are still complaining that the game should have implemented additional features characteristic to Titanfall games. The studio even explained that some mechanics were adjusted to fit the BT format better.
Whether you consider AL a phenomenal game or just a way to pass the time until the “real” TF-universe title, we hope that you are excited as we are about the upcoming year for Respawn and the fans.
