Have you heard about the latest hit release PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? It has sold more than five million copies on Steam and propelled to the top of the charts, setting its claim for the biggest game of 2017. When it comes to concurrent player counts, PUBG has gone over half a million and topped major releases such as Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V. If you don’t know what PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is all about, keep reading; we provided all info that you need to know.
What PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Is All About?
Do you maybe know who Brendan Greene is? He is a famous modder much more known as PlayerUnknown. In fact, PUBG is named after him. The previous games he worked on are H1Z1 and Day Z, but in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, you can expect a much more polished game that tends to be simpler.
There are similarities with DayZ and H1Z1, especially considering that PUBG is also a survival game. However, there are no zombies in the newest release. Aside from that, there are also no single player campaign or offline modes. That means that you will require a constant internet connection to play the game. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is exclusively multiplayer, but it does an excellent job of providing incredible competitive experience.
Ready? Set? Survive!
There are various multiplayer modes in PUBG, the possible biggest game of 2017. You can play every man for himself (solo), in teams of two (duo) or form your squad (team mode). At this point, there are only a couple of maps available, but we can expect more to be provided soon, especially considering the popularity of the game.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a survival shooter where you are on a huge map along with 100 other players. That is an incredibly large number, so let’s take a moment to say how thrilled we are that the servers are working phenomenally. The map you play on is massive, which is only logical when you take into account the number of players playing.
Can You Be the Last Man Standing in PUBG?
Let’s take a look at how the biggest game of 2017 starts. A total of 101 players boards a cargo plane which flies over the map. You can choose any given moment to propel from the plane and land on a particular area of the map you consider fitting. The only thing that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds provide is a parachute.
Once you safely land, it’s your job to find weapons, ammunition, health, and armor. There are houses and buildings nearby where you can find some equipment. However, keep in mind that there are ten other players in the game trying to get the gear first. Furthermore, some of them might have already done that, and they might be lurking to off you as soon as you come close. Yes, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds starts with the high level of excitement and tension from the start, which we haven’t seen in many releases.
The Longer You Last, the More Points for You
Unfortunately, there can only be one winner among 100 players (or a team of winners but that also counts as one). However, PUBG wouldn’t be the biggest game of 2017 if it hasn’t thought of how to be fair towards other players. The guy (or team) that is the last one standing takes the win, but there are points for other players, too.
In PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, each kill counts and adds to your score. Aside from that, it also counts how long you have managed to stay alive. It’s not an easy task to do, especially because the areas with more weapons and equipment tend to be crowded with other players and that almost always calls for some shooting.
You Think You Can Sneak Your Way to Victory? Think Again!
One thing that probably crossed your mind is that you can find yourself a hiding place and wait until the remaining players kill each other. PUBG creatively solves this issue. The game won’t encourage the sneaking part, although it inevitably must be part of the match.
There is a safe zone in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which is the area where you will want to be. That zone shrinks as the match progresses which leads to the playable are becoming smaller and smaller. If you find yourself out of the safe zone, you will suffer big and continuous damage. It is impossible to survive like that, I tried.
That is why your task is to find your way to the safe zone. You can do this either by sneaking or fighting, but that is what will inevitably lead to fewer players standing and speed up the match. It is another layer that adds to the excitement that PUBG brings.
The Tactics Will Depend on the Equipment You Find
That’s only a logical conclusion to make. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has a broad range of weapons available, starting from the regular pistol up to shotguns and various rifles, as well as grenades. Depending on which weapon you pick up, you might need to adjust your tactics. For example, if you only have a pistol it might be a bad idea to go against an opponent carrying a rifle. Also, if you are carrying a grenade, use it to kill your rivals from afar.
Aside from the weapons, you will need ammunition, which you can also find in the buildings nearby. There are also silencers, scopes, and red-dot sights that might help you with offing the opponents. You can’t carry an unlimited number of items, but finding backpacks will increase how many you can hold. Finally, there are helmets and armor vests that you can pick up to help you survive. Carrying them means that the rivals will inflict you less damage. Each player has a health meter, which is a thing that requires close attention. Your health won’t replenish on its own, but you can look for the items that will refill or boost it.
The thing that I loved in PUBG is that you can also find a vehicle that works! Not many cars are drivable, but if you find one of them, you hit the jackpot. A vehicle will enable you to move from one area to another in a swift way, but be aware because you can get stuck off-road and they make a lot of noise.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Is in Early Access
There’s another thing you need to know about PUBG. It’s officially still in early access phase because the developers can’t promise 100% stability. However, that’s not something why you should worry. It just means that server disconnects and similar issues can happen from time to time. Regardless of that, PUBG is a game in an extremely stable state. Furthermore, the development team promised regular updates (on a daily basis) that will improve the game. It’s incredible that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds might be the biggest game of 2017 even at this point.
We Want More Content!
PUBG is in early access, and we want to show that we understand developers who probably didn’t expect so many players at this point. The game, however, became popular and the community eagerly awaits for more content.
Although the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds replay value is incredible, it would still be nice to add more maps and content overall. As mentioned, you can only play multiplayer online mode, which is incredibly exciting, but it feels it’s not enough. Aside from that, there is the rewards system, but it only comes down to unlocking extra clothing for your player.
There are also issues with certain gamepads since many users reported that they couldn’t perform actions such as crouching properly. The good news is that keyboard controls work perfectly and they are very responsive. As we get regular updates, we are sure that PUBG will get more interesting and truly prove to be the biggest game of 2017.
Will the Console Players Be Able to Play It?
At this point, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is only scheduled to release on Xbox One X later this year. Aside from PC players, owners of the Microsoft consoles will be the only ones that will enjoy this gem. There will be some additional features that will be exclusive to Xbox, but the list, as well as the release date, will have to wait.
As for the other consoles, there is some unofficial info that there might be a chance for PUBG to make an appearance, but it’s all on a long stick for now.
So, let’s answer the big question from the title – can PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds be the biggest game of 2017. I think it’s a definite yes, especially if the developers continue to iron out issues and add more content. There are some issues that PUBG has, but that is understandable considering that it is in early access phase.
We rarely see that game at such an early stage of development generates this much attention like PUBG. That is why we are convinced that this is an excellent game and it can only become better from this point.
