PlayStation 5 is celebrating its first birthday today! Happy birthday, PS5! It’s been a year since the console was released to the public. The year definitely went by with some highs and lows for the next-gen console made by Sony. Or it was completely eventless if you were not able to purchase it in the first place. Which is quite common due to a number of factors.
Sony published a special post for this occasion. It began by listing many games that shined on the system. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart by Insomniac Games got a shootout. Which is understandable since it is a PS5 exclusive and a kick-ass platformer at that! Then Returnal by Housemarque was mentioned. Again a great exclusive title, definitely a gem that often gets overlooked for some reason.
But then it kinda gets weird. Deathloop by Arkane Studios. Which is a timed exclusive for PS5, made by a studio owned by Microsoft. But maybe they do have a point. Since the game was near unplayable at times on PC due to poor optimization. And then the absolute mystery of Demon’s Souls remake by Bluepoint. Or rather, the lack of.
Sony did not give a shoutout to one of the best reasons to even own a PlayStation 5 console. Which is just bewildering to me. Original Demon’s Souls had a little bit of a role to play in PS3 sales. Then Bloodborne came along and carried the launch of PS4 so damn hard that many bought the system JUST for that one title. And Demon’s Souls remake did the same for PS5. There was no other reason to get the console during its launch. It is weird that Sony did not acknowledge this fact at all.
Sony Reveals Top 10 Most Played PlayStation 5 Games As Part Of The Consoles First Birthday
Sony also gave us access to some interesting data. According to the post, 25 games are currently in development for the PS5 at PlayStation Studios. “PS5 gamers have collectively played more than 4.6 billion hours of gameplay on PS5 and broadcast more than 26 million hours of content,” reports PlayStation blog.
And here are PS5’s most played games according to the gameplay hours:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- FIFA 21
- NBA 2K21
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Destiny 2
- MLB The Show 21
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Demon’s Souls
- NBA 2K22
And to close the post off Jim Ryan, the president & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Concludes that inventory shortages when it comes to PS5 continue to be their top priority. Down in the posts comment section, we can find people voicing their discontent with the product shortages. Others pleading for features such as movies and tv shows to come back to the PlayStation store. Overall the first year of PS5 has been successful, but definitely very shaky.
