After all the eager anticipation and theories we finally have our official Assassin’s Creed reveal. The new AC game is titled Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, will obviously be about Vikings and will be set around 100-300 years before the timeline of AC1. Though right now at 10:00 ET time, the reveal is ongoing. What we mean is that Ubisoft, in co-operation with the artist BossLogic, is creating what seems to be the official reveal concept art for the next Assassin’s Creed game.

It depicts a man in the middle of two very distinct images. On his right, we see a landscape of ice mountains and high seas. This place seems stranded and beautiful where you could probably witness the northern lights a.k.a aurora borealis. Boats are accompanied by an eagle which probably will be like Senu and Ikaros. On his left, we see the contrast. We see a few soldiers that seem to be in combat wielding spears and axes with a large fortified castle in the background while the sun shines a yellowish-orange hue on the entire image like a bright early morning. It surely is a war between the Vikings and another European region which goes with the speculations that this time around we will have multiple locations like England and Paris. You can catch the reveal here:

We will get a world premiere trailer for the game on 30th April at 8AM PDT.

What Can We Expect From the New Assassin’s Creed game

As we have seen from the previous two main titles, Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Ubisoft has fundamentally shifted the way we play Assassin’s Creed with the inclusion of RPG mechanics. From pure gameplay elements such as combat, weapons, armor, etc. to important plot elements such as dialogue choices, multiple endings, etc. This change has been largely met with positive critical and fan acclaim with both Origins and Odyssey being 9+ out of 10 games. Not to mention, the settings of both these games are as strong as ever. Ancient Egypt in Origins never fails to mesmerize and Ancient Greece in Odyssey commands respect in every way. It can be safely said that the RPG elements, the grandiose and vast setting, and an improved combat system will definitely be there in the next Assassin’s Creed.

Assassin’s Creed: Odessey also featured a naval system with traversal and fun combat. Since the new Assassin’s Creed is heavily rumored to be related to Vikings (and the concept art), a naval system is pretty much on the table.

What We Wish to See More of

Those who have been playing Assassin’s Creed from the very first game felt a lack of focus on the assassins in Odyssey. The feeling arises perhaps from the absence of the trademark hidden blade and since Odyssey takes place before Origins we don’t really see any assassin characters in it. However, this new Assassin’s Creed is developed by Ubisoft Montreal and directed by Ashraf Ismail who are behind games such as Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Origins so we can surely expect a more focus towards the assassins this time. Additionally, this new title is suggested to take place in a time period between Odyssey and Origins. Maybe we will see the whole idea of Assassins being formed?

Assassins Creed: Odyssey was definitely one of the best entries to date, let’s not ignore that. So, as fans, we most certainly hope for everything that Odyssey already had i.e wonderful setting, heartfelt protagonists, impactful RPG elements, etc. and adapting all of it into a more oldschool Assassin’s Creed like experience. From what we have seen since the last two entries, we will gladly take a leap of faith for the new Assassin’s Creed entry. Chaire, fellow Brotherhood!
