Did anyone expect Mortal Kombat 11 to be revealed during the 2018 Game Awards? Don’t get us wrong – we love nice surprises, and Netherrealm Studios now has another one for all MK fans out there. The big gameplay reveal of the new instalment was made, and the first new character was officially confirmed.
You can check out the entire 20-minute gameplay footage here:
Numerous familiar characters are featured in the video, such as Scorpion and Raiden. We knew that they would be included every since the official announcement, but what we loved is that the game will also include Sonya, Sub-Zero, Baraka, and Liu Kang. Another interesting addition will be Skarlet, a character that was featured in Mortal Kombat 9 but then omitted later on.
This is all cast we are familiar with, but there is one character we got to see for the first time. His name is Geras, and his advantage is the capability to manipulate time and sand. Apart from that, the video also features character customizations and numerous fatalities that fulfilled the gruesome expectations of the community.
Fully Customizable Fighters
When it comes to fighter variations, the studio confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11 would allow that feature. You will get to pick various clothing items, intros, and other customizations that should make you love a particular character and add to the replay value. Some gamers are emphasizing that there is a need for more than 25 fighters, which is the number that will be included in the default cast. The good news is that there will be extra characters included in the game, but the bad one is that they will come in the form of DLC.
As expected, there will be a cinematic story, too. Netherrealm nailed it with this option in previous instalments as it gave the necessary depth to a single-player playthrough. The assumptions that the community makes about the trailer indicate that there might even be some time travelling involved. That would be pretty cool, huh?
Mortal Kombat 11 has an official release date set for April 23, 2019. If you place a pre-order, you will get an additional fighter to play with – the great Shao Kahn. The beta version is officially announced for March, but only on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
