You will play as Henry, a son of a blacksmith from a village somewhere in Bohemia. He dreams of traveling the world, but the reality comes to him when Sigismund and his troops raid the town and kill his parents and hundreds of other people. Henry quickly readjusts his dreams and sets on a journey of revenge.
Kingdom Come Deliverance might be an open-world RPG. You will go from one village to another looking for your father’s sword and the killer of your parents. Plenty of different quests wait, including those that are directly related to the plot, as well as secondary missions that will help you shape up Henry’s personality.
Kingdom Come Is Not for Everyone
If you think, it’s hard to place this game in any genre. Some say that it is a Skyrim version for lovers of Mount & Blade, others that it is The Witcher 3 taken to a whole new level. But the truth is that you need to forget everything you learned in the video games so far if you want to have a real Kingdom Come Deliverance. Also, you need to be ready to put in some effort and teach how the gameplay mechanics work. It will be worth your while!
In the beginning, Henry doesn’t know the first thing about the world. He is young, and he never left his village. You have a default system of leveling up which will influence the choice of what our hero can say/wear/equip. On the other hand, you also have traits such as Speech, Vitality, and Strength. You upgrade this over time and with effort. If you want to improve your conversation skills, you need to talk to people. Want to be better with your sword? Start swinging! Yes, it is that simple.
Improve Your Skills and Choose Your Path
Aside from Henry’s traits, you can also work on his skills. That includes picking locks, which can come in handy over time, as well as alchemy and herbology, which will help you in crafting potions. The point is that you can choose who Henry will become. However, it’s never a bad thing to diversify because you might find yourself in a situation that requires a change of strategy.
There is not a single thing that is simple in Kingdom Come Deliverance. You have a map to navigate around Bohemia. The areas that might interest you are marked, but you will still need to explore. You won’t find an item that you can use glowing among thousands of others. If you want to bandage your wound, you have to read on how to do it. Once again, if you’re going to play this game, you need to be ready to invest time and effort into keeping Henry alive. I will give you a piece of advice – be careful with food. Bread or cheese may go bad and give you food poisoning if you are not careful!
Are You Ready for Battle?
It won’t be Middle Age if there isn’t combat involved. First of all, you need to learn how to swing your sword. The crucial tip is to watch your stamina. Swords are massive, and each swing will take a portion of your energy. As a young man, you can get tired quickly, and then you become vulnerable. So, it might be a wise choice to avoid battles, at least at first. You can use your conversation skills or hide in the dark. It might be cowardly, but at least you will stay alive.
Just like the real Middle Age didn’t, Kingdom Come Deliverance shows no mercy. You can quickly die or suffer consequences like becoming a cripple. Let’s mention one thing that is on your side – the perk system. You could say that these are boosts and special effects that help you on your journey. These perks may include quicker stamina regain or improved conversation skills when talking to a particular group of people.
The Beautiful Middle Age
Before we turn to graphics, I will the need to commend the sound in the game. The dialogs are almost perfect and up there with the best HBO’s historical dramas. The main protagonist is incredibly deep, as well as the other characters you will meet on your way. The sounds you hear while playing, such as the rain falling onto your armor or the animals in the nearby bushes, are impressive and realistic.
The level of detail when it comes to graphics is incredible. The world is impressively large, and the scenery is stunning. It’s also phenomenal how everything keeps going even if you are not there. For example, if you start a quest and you are given a task to come to a specific location, you don’t have an infinite amount of time to get there. You can wander around hunting animals or explore mines, but you might miss out on something interesting.
The Incredible Replay Value
That might be the most significant advantage of Kingdom Come Deliverance. It has incredible replay value, and you can play the game for days without it getting even slightly repetitive. However, it’s a shame that you can’t auto-save whenever you want. Instead, the game saves when you fall asleep or when you start a quest.
Let’s finish the same way we started. This game is not for everyone, and you will need both patience and effort to play it. However, if you give it a chance, you will find yourself so involved that you won’t be able to stop. You will count the seconds until your next encounter with Henry and his adventures and Kingdom Come will become one of your favorites before you even noticed.
