IGN just announced their exciting Summer of Gaming event slated to begin in June, which is just a few days from now. Summer of Gaming will be a fully digital event, for obvious reasons, which will work similarly to other gaming events such as the ongoing Summer Game Fest by Geoff Keighley. So, expect to get hyped for all the awesome reveals of upcoming games and consoles even more than before.
With our yearly gamer’s tradition of E3 being canceled this year, a slew of events such as the previously mentioned Summer Game Fest, Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition, EA Play, Night City Wire by Cyberpunk 2077, etc. are all stepping up to provide the same buzz that E3 creates around the gaming industry. IGN’s Summer of Gaming aims to do just that with amazing game news, trailers, discussions, demos, previews, and much more. Add to this the fact that IGN is partnering with publishers and developers such as Square Enix, Bandai Namco, 2K, Devolver Digital, etc. and you have more than enough reasons to look forward to this event.
That’s Not All!
Aside from Summer of Gaming, IGN is also gearing up for IGN Expo, a showcase of exclusive game reveals and glimpses into upcoming titles. Gamers interested in speedrunning also have something to look forward to, with IGN hosting numerous speedrunning competitions in this event. Some of the games that will be featured in this contest are Titanfall 2, the Fallout series, Mario 64, 2019’s Game of the Year Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and more. This, along with IGN’s Celebrity Island Tours in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are Summer of Gaming’s Charity Events. The funds raised from these two events will go forward into helping the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
Well, what is Celebrity Island Tours? It will a day-long stream where the big names of pop culture will take us through the game Animal Crossing and explore unique islands. Gary Whitta, writer of works such as Rogue One and Book of Eli, will be hosting a special talk show called Animal Talking which will be streamed on his Twitch and YouTube VOD channels. IGN will also include their own podcast pre and post presentations hosted by their editorial teams to have their own touch to every event. Not to mention interviews with game developers!
As we can see, June 4th marks the beginning of the Summer of Gaming. During the 5th of June, we’ll see quite a few games to be shown and revealed, one of those games being Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time. Also, first time reveals of three unannounced games. Now, considering IGN has partnered with Bandai Namco and are planning to show us new games, we can slightly hope for some information regarding FromSoftware’s Elden Ring in collaboration with The Song of Ice and Fire’s author George R.R Martin. For now, we can only see how all the events unfold. Nevertheless, Summer of Gaming will prove to be an amazing addition to all the gaming events we have lined up.
Summer of Gaming will be available to watch online on 20 or so platforms including IGN’s website, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Apple TV, Mixer, etc. It will be streamed to around 110 countries in 25 languages.
All in all, Summer of Gaming will be a satisfying event for casual fans as well as sophisticated fans with exciting gameplays and detailed insights into the gaming industry!
