Elden Ring Delayed, New Trailer Released, Closed Network Test Announced For Consoles Only

A delay has come for the newest FromSoftware venture. The team reports that their initial expectations were exceeded

Elden Ring, the latest game in the FromSoftware library, just got hit with a delay. “ELDEN RING will release on Feb 25, 2022, as the depth & strategic freedom of the game exceeded initial expectations. Thank you for your trust & patience,” reads the tweet announcing the delay.

Yet another title that releases February 2022. Elden Ring joins Dying Light 2 (Feb 4th), Horizon Forbidden West (Feb 18), and Saints Row (Feb 25th). The expansion for Destiny 2 also goes live on Feb 22th. An absolutely MASSIVE month for gamers all over the globe.

Everyone right now is retweeting the words of Shigeru Miyamoto. “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad,” goes the quote. But lately, more than ever people are quick to point out that this is not true. That over the past couple of years more than ever we have seen games delayed only to release unfinished. And this is the core of the problem, “unfinished”. This means the games were not delayed far enough.

FromSoftware has not missed yet. I do not think they will miss with Elden Ring. If they say a month delay will make this title shinier, and more awesome, I completely trust them. Miyazaki is a very hands-on director, he would not disappoint his fans after the hell he went through to get Demon’s Souls out on the market.

Elden Ring gets a Network Test Trailer!

When the Elden Ring team announced the delay, IGN dropped an official closed network test announcement trailer at nearly the same time. The trailer itself is merely 18 seconds long. And 8 of these seconds is spent showing off a jpg filled with text. But the first 10 or so seconds feature shots we have seen already, mixed in with some footage not present in any trailer before this one. Which is frankly just weird. I’m sure some YouTuber is going to go ham on these 4 seconds of new footage.

The real meat is not new information about the game, but rather the announcement the trailer carries. A closed network test is going to take place between November 12th and November 14th. What’s interesting are the platforms. PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One. No PC for this network test. It is speculated that FromSoftware did not want any data miners to take apart Elden Ring before it even releases.

If you want to participate, you have to follow this link. And sign up before November 1st. But you have to be quick! According to their guidelines, only the first 50,000 people get in. And it is going by the “first come, first served” rule.
