A user going by the screen name “hugeleakeractually” shared via a Reddit post, that a new Warner Bros fighting game is in the works. Supposedly made by NetherRealm Studios. Yes, the masterminds behind the Mortal Kombat franchise. The mysterious game is a crossover platformer fighter. It draws inspiration from Smash and intends to be something very much like it. Just like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
All of this is naturally far-fetched and should be taken with a grain of salt. Or maybe, a whole lot of salt actually. I mean, just look at the list of supposed characters, straight from the Reddit post. Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, Gandalf, Tom & Jerry, Batman, Fred Flinstone, Mad Max, Johnny Bravo.
The leaker claims that the game operates on a tag team basis. Meaning you pick two characters, and you play with them. But he doesn’t seem to fully understand how this mechanic actually functions. He then reveals the origin of the title. It came to life when “Ultra Instinct Shaggy” memes were going viral. A lot of people at the time wanted NeterRealm to add Shaggy as a DLC character for Mortal Kombat. They did not want to compromise the reputation of their beloved IP. But NetherRealm liked the idea enough to pitch a crossover platform fighter to Warner Bros. And they loved the idea. At least that is how the story goes according to this totally not credible source.
Warner Bros. Fighting Game – Joke or Reality?
But the story is not without some merit. The leaker linked to a Justia Trademarks page. Visiting the link reveals a trademark for something called “MULTIVERSUS”. The trademark is indeed owned by Warner Bros. And it was filled on September 9th of this year. A coincidence? Someone using this information to bamboozle us on Reddit? At this time it is impossible to tell.
Another interesting element of this “Warner Bros. fighting game” is Warner Bros themselves. If one looks through movies produced or co-produced by Warner, an interesting pattern emerges. Over the last two years, we had Birds of Prey, Godzilla vs Kong, The Suicide Squad, and Space Jam: A New Legacy. What does this say about Warner? Well, they love their superhero movies. But, at the same time, a huge focus is on crossover media.
Lately, a leak about God of War coming to PC came true. Another leak happened when Ubisoft revealed Rainbow Six Extraction’srelease date prematurely. This quarter of the year definitely has some interesting leaks happening.
