Blizzard Makes StarCraft II Free to Play for Everyone

Starcraft II Free To Play

Despite the fact that is has been on the market for seven years, StarCraft II is still an incredibly popular real-time strategy. That’s why the revelation that the game will become free to play was a surprise when it was announced at the BlizzCon held at the beginning of the month. However, Blizzard delivered on that promise and today you can play SCII free of charge.

If you haven’t tried the game yet, you should know that the first part of the campaign called Wings of Liberty is entirely free. That means this is the perfect time to join thousands of players already enjoying the release. Aside from the mentioned campaign, you can also try playing as any of the currently available (and even some upcoming) commanders in the co-op mode. Upgrading them, until level five also comes at no cost, while you can level up Artanis, Kerrigan, and Raynor as high as you want.

There are also additions that they won’t charge you for, but you will have to earn them during play. You can unlock the multiplayer units from WOL, as well as the Legacy of the Void and the Heart of the Swarm. The condition that you will have to fulfill is to play the Unranked or Versus AI and earn ten First Wins of the Day achievement. It doesn’t sound like a hard task, and the reward is sweet!

What If I Already Own Wings of Liberty?

Blizzard didn’t forget you, either. If you already own the first part of the campaign, you will get the second one for free. The expansion is called The Heart of the Swarm and secures a lot of extra fun with no charge. The only thing you need to do is to log into the game until December 8, while the date of your purchase has to be before the end of October 2017.

As for the latter parts of the campaign, the bundle that includes all of them is available on sale for $40. For that money, you get the Nova Covert Ops, Legacy of the Void, and Heart of the Swarm. If you want to purchase them separately, it will cost you $15 per expansion.

You can download StarCraft II from the official website of the game. Make sure to try it and see for yourself why it is one of the real gems of the RTS genre.
